Bio: Archana

I am a graduate in music from Annamalai University. I have been practising violin for more than 10 years and have been teaching for more than 5 years. I am blessed to be under the tutelage of my Guru Shri.R. Kasivisweswaran in the Guru shishya parampara

When it comes to teaching children, I can make them laugh and smile now and then and teach them in a very playful manner and make sure that the class is very light and entertaining. I can also guide students in buying the right kind of Violin.

My ultimate aim in teaching is to make students realize the essence of music and live a better and harmonious life.

The practice rigour includes:

  • Customizing the violin to Carnatic style which usually involves the setting of the bridge as low as possible without dehydrating the sound of the violin.
  • Holding the violin in the appropriate way.
  • Holding the bow of the violin in the appropriate way.
  • Proper right hand and left hand techniques.
  • Pitch exercises.
  • Creative exercises based on the basic lessons.
  • Technical aspects concerned while playing the basic lessons.
  • Tala (Rhythm) exercises, to develop the rhythmic senses that speed up the learning process and gives the confidence to play the violin enthusiastically.
  • Raga identification.
  • Understanding the Gamakas (fundamental ornamentation techniques).
  • Varnam practice as the best Abhyasa Ganam.
  • A personalised approach in teaching through the traditional method and the Suzuki method.
  • Sharing of video and audio recordings of the lessons taught in the class if required.
